Liverpool have reportedly made inquiries about Barcelona midfielder Gavi, with manager Arne Slot believing the young talent would be a perfect fit for his team.

Gavi, who won the Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy awards in 2022, is widely regarded as an exceptional player. He featured in nearly every La Liga match for Barcelona over the past two seasons. However, this year, his role has been reduced, with just two starts and a total of 192 minutes in the league since recovering from an ACL injury.

According to El Nacional, if Gavi doesn't soon secure a regular place in Barcelona's starting lineup, he may look for a new club. Liverpool, currently at the top of the Premier League, are reportedly keen on the midfielder and have been closely monitoring his situation.

Slot is said to be confident that Gavi would slot seamlessly into his squad, leading Liverpool to inquire about his availability and asking price.

Should Gavi's situation remain unchanged, a move to Liverpool by summer could be a real possibility.

Where could Gavi fit in at Liverpool?

Gavi primarily plays as a No.8, a role similar to that of Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones. While both have featured regularly this season, Gavi would likely compete for a spot in the midfield. He can also play a more advanced No.10 role or even operate on the wings, particularly on the left.

With Dominik Szoboszlai not yet performing at the level of some of the Premier League’s top attacking midfielders, Gavi could challenge him for a starting spot. Additionally, he could provide valuable depth in the forward line if needed. It’s clear why Slot believes Gavi would be a great addition.

Liverpool’s other potential moves

In addition to Gavi, Liverpool are also said to be considering other targets. They are reportedly monitoring Bayern Munich’s wantaway player, and could be in talks to beat Manchester United to the transfer. Furthermore, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman is also on their radar, with the Nigerian forward reportedly open to a move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Darren Bent has expressed his surprise that key players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk could potentially leave Liverpool at the same time. While he expects Salah and Van Dijk to stay, Bent believes Alexander-Arnold may be the most likely to leave, with Real Madrid increasingly confident of luring him away from Anfield.
